STOP RECYCLED STOLEN PHONES

THE TUFF TRADERS’ CODE OF PRACTICE

ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

In 2009, the members of The Telecommunications UK Fraud Forum came together and achieved something remarkable. Recyclers, traders, retailers and insurers, with support from policing and government produced a voluntary code of practice to protect consumers and traders alike from stolen mobile phones.

The code has been refreshed and updated for 2024 to address changes in the trading landscape and the prevalence of non-phone devices that are connected to telecommunication networks.

The code of practice specifies standards of due-diligence to follow when purchasing used devices in a commercial setting. Whatever your organisation’s reason for buying used devices, following the code will mitigate your risk. It provides evidence of your good practice and ensures thieves find it harder to profit from their crime.

Adherence to the code of practice increases consumers’ trust in the market and differentiates reputable traders from the rest. As of September 2024, compliant members help prevent the trade of over 500 million pounds worth of stolen devices every year.

Is your business compliant? Are your competitors? Can you afford not to be?
